Take your photography to the next level, capturing the moai of Easter Island beneath the spectacular backdrop of the Milky Way. Visit Ahu Naunau and Ahu Ature Huke at Anakena Beach, Huri a Urenga, Hanga Kio'e and other sites of interest along the coastline, capturing incredible images of the sky on one of the most isolated islands in the world.
Rapa Nui Stargazing provides three type of private night photography tours which are run by Marc Shields, author of 'Easter Island - Rapa Nui, Amazing Imagery from Te Pito o Te Henua'.
Astrophotography Session 1 - Sunset to Stars
End the day with the golden light of a Rapa Nui sunset before the twilight fades and the stars appear.
Astrophotography Session 2 - Milky Way and Stars
Focusing exclusively on night photography, capture images of the Milky Way and star-blanketed sky of Easter Island.
Astrophotography Session 3 - Stars to Sunrise
Head out about two hours before dawn to enjoy the early morning sky before the starlight fades and the sun rises.
Astrophotography Session 4 - You be the Star!
Capture professional images of yourself beneath the backdrop of the Milky Way and the moai of Easter Island. A great way for honeymooners, families or groups to get stunning photos of themselves under the star-filled sky at a unique and amazing place.
As all night photo tours are private, Rapa Nui Stargazing offers flexibility regarding the order of sites visited. As sunset and sunrise times change throughout the year, light levels from the moon change over the lunar cycle, and the position of the Milky Way and stars changes from season to season, Rapa Nui Stargazing will recommend which is the best time of day to conduct the photography session.
Not all digital cameras are capable of taking night photos (point-and-shoots and mobile phones are not suitable). The minimum level of equipment required is a DSLR or mirrorless camera that can be set manually. Bringing a tripod is advisable. Even if you are still learning the basics of night photography, we can help you optimize the use of your camera by giving insights into composition and use of camera settings.
Astrophotography tours are run at $350 for one or two people.
